Jumby Bay, a luxury hotel in Antigua, has made a generous donation of $EC10,000 to the Urlings CC Club House build. The build can begin! The last two matches for this season will be played at home at Urlings CC this weekend, against Freetown and St Paul’s. The club’s attention will then shift to the Club House build beginning with laying the foundations in July.
Meanwhile, we have started exploring twinning Urlings CC with Lansdown CC in Bath, the club that Sir Viv Richards first played for when he arrived in the UK in the 70’s. He played here for two years to qualify to play for Somerset CC.
Today an aspiring young player from Antigua follows in his footsteps, arriving at Lansdown CC to play out the rest of the UK season with the senior team. Kofi James, 19, plays for Antigua, Leeward Islands and was recently selected for a West Indies camp. This is wonderful international experience for him thanks to Martin Veal and the team at Lansdown. In return Lansdown has acquired a great batsman and bowler, also great in the outfield.
We are looking forward to seeing him play here in Bath and seeing what the future has in store for the twinning of Lansdown CC and Urlings CC, two clubs with great community spirits.
We are now well within reach of that total, almost touching! Here’s to grassroots cricket development in Antigua.
